Apple finally made the switch from a 12 MP main camera to a 48 MP one on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max last year. That is set to continue this year, it seems, with a new leak now claiming Apple will also equip the iPhone 15 Pro models with 48 MP shooters, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max receiving an even bigger sensor.
According to leaker Ice Universe, the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max will debut later this year with a new 48 MP sensor. That sensor, the IMX903, is expected to be a significant upgrade on the IMX803 the iPhone 14 Pro duo currently feature. Size-wise, for example, the IMX903 is expected to be a 1/1.14-inch sensor, compared to the 1/1.28-inch IMX803. In addition, leakers tout hardware-level 14-bit DNG RAW capture.
Sadly, though, it appears Apple may be making a move back to the days where the Pro Max model had a better main camera than the Pro one. All available information leans towards the IMX903 being exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, with the iPhone 15 Pro apparently set to retain the IMX803 of its predecessors.
